58784 - Design and Development of Biogas Venturi Mixture for Stationary Diesel Engine Using Analytical and Cfd Approach
The major problems to use biogas as a alternative fuel in diesel engine is the modification needed for converting current diesel engine into enriched biogas engine. The fuel intake system is one of the major modifications required into the diesel engine. To overcome this problem a new fuel intake system has been designed by using analytical and CFD approach. With the new fuel intake system engine runs effectively and properly using enriched biogas as an alternative fuel. It has been observed that simple modification are required in fuel intake system such that convergent-divergent angle, throat diameter etc. for uniform mixing of enriched biogas and air for complete combustion of fuel for improving engine performance and efficiency. This paper is focused on modification of single cylinder four stroke diesel engines into enriched biogas engine operating in SI mode. The major modification is the air and biogas mixing system. The venturi type mixture is designed and analyzed for proper mixing of air and enriched biogas. For converting diesel engine into biogas engine at nominal cost, use of venturi type mixture is affordable which helps to improving combustion and volumetric efficiency. This paper concludes that the minimum throat diameter gives better mixing of biogas and air. Better mixing effects on combustion to improves volumetric efficiency, Brake thermal efficiency, reducing emission of the engine.
