103396 - Dynamic Analysis of Rotor Rotational Speed by Modeling Low Pressure Turbine Shaft Failure
LPT (low pressure turbine) shaft failure analysis is important for engine safety design and airworthiness certification. To determine LPT rotor rotational speed dynamics under the LPT shaft failure scenario is the premise of LPT failure analysis. In this study, the common operating equation of transient process is established for the LPT shaft failure, and the simulation model of split-row dual-shaft direct drive gas turbine engine is constructed by combining component characteristics and control system response. Based on this model, the high temperature take-off state is selected as the critical condition in typical flight envelope. The effect of LPT shaft failure on engine dynamic response, LPT rotor rotational speed dynamics and the important factors affecting the LPT rotor rotational speed are analysed under the above condition. The results demonstrate the fuel variation, the extent of damage of LPT, LPT work efficiency and the moment of resistance significantly affect the responses of rotational speed. This study also provides the suggested approaches to reduce the LPT shaft maximum rotational speed after LPT shaft failure. The simulation model can achieve the rotational speed prediction under the LPT shaft failure condition, which can be also applied to design and optimize the LPT rotor margin, and indicates the airworthiness conformance.
