Joint Panel with EPC and CFE
Organizers; Manfred Klein and Marina Braun-Unkhoff
Abstract
The ASME/IGTI had until 2006 a specific Environmental and Regulatory Committee that interfaced with various stakeholders on certain air emission topics. As greenhouse gas issues had become prominent during that period, and air pollution prevention remained important, the policy landscape on these issues was altered. Modern hydrogen-based fuel combustion is quite difficult when maximizing system efficiency, safety and reliability, and load following for renewables. It has been shown that concentration-based criteria for NOx emissions will penalize most hydrogen blends, possibly leading to added design and operating complexity. This Panel will explore whether new approaches could be considered, with more flexibility in air pollutant emission levels to achieve reliable low carbon solutions with varying hydrogen blends, and whether a new TurboExpo committee might be useful in addressing such policy issues.
