Panel Description: Nuclear power plants are increasingly required to operate flexibly to meet current power demands. This panel will present and discuss the requirements and issues associated with the flexible operation of nuclear steam turbines, focusing on aspects of the control valve because of the important role it serves in the operation and safety of nuclear plants.
Mugurel Stanciu (EDF) and Stephane Braem (EDF) will present an operator’s perspective of flexible operation of nuclear steam turbines. James Wieters (EPRI) will present industry operating experience for both nuclear and fossil control valves. Marc ter Beck (Siemens Energy) will present on the topic of vibrational behaviors of valves under low load condition. Martin Toulemonde (GE Vernova) will present a specialized valve castellation that is designed to support operational flexibility.
