Panel Description: Damage tolerant design and lifing apporaches became the new standard for components in gas turbines, mainly driven by increasing cost-effectiveness, prolonging component life and also as a reaction on increasingly flexible usage of gas turbines for power generation. With the incorporation of airtificial intelligence tools, it is now possible to incorporate large field feedback data sets to refine and improve the prodivtive quality of such lifing approaches and move further towards real-time reliability assessment of components. In this panel we want to discuss the current status of damage tolerant lifing methods in academics and industry. Strong focus will be placed on current developments and trends that will impact this field in the next 5 to 10 years.
