The IGTI SAC Turbo Career Talks is an initiative designed to provide students and early-career professionals with valuable insights into career opportunities across academia, government, and industry during Turbo Expo 2025.
This panel will focus on exploring the career opportunities within government institutions in three regions (North America, Europe and Asia). The primary audience consists of graduate students, PhD candidates, and early-career engineers interested in pursuing a government career in turbomachinery or, more broadly, in mechanical/aerospace/chemical/energy engineering.
Three distinguished experts will share their experiences and perspectives on career growth:
- Dr. James Heidmann, Deputy Director, Advanced Air Vehicles Program at NASA Glenn Research Center - Dr.–Ing. Alexander Hergt, Head of Experimental Research for Fan and Compressor Aerodynamics at German Aerospace Center (DLR) - Dr. Je-Sung Bang, Principal Researcher, Department of Energy Storage Systems at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials
Each speaker will deliver a short presentation outlining career paths, key decisions, and work opportunities within their region. A roundtable discussion will follow, addressing key challenges in turbomachinery research across the different regions, industry and international collaborations, essential skills for future researchers and valuable career lessons. The session will conclude with a Q&A, allowing the audience to engage directly with the panelists.
